Random Number Generator

Pick a minimum, a maximum and how many numbers you want. With no-repeat and sort options, up to 1000 at once, using unbiased cryptographic randomness.

Recommended next step in this suite:

You are a teacher who needs to decide the order in which 28 students present, or you are running a neighbourhood draw and must pick 3 winners from 150 tickets. With slips of paper in a bag it takes ten minutes and someone always suspects the person who reached in.

DataKorex Radical Transparency: At DataKorex every utility runs in your browser. Numbers are generated on your device with the browser's cryptographic randomness; nothing is sent or stored.

How to use Random Numbers step by step

1

1. Set the range

Type the minimum and maximum, for example 1 and 10 or 1 and 100. Positive and negative whole numbers are allowed.

2

2. Set the amount and options

Up to 1000 numbers. Tick "No repeats" for distinct numbers and "Sort" to see them ascending.

3

3. Generate and copy

Press Generate. If several come out, "Copy list" takes them comma-separated.

The Step Count: Traditional Friction vs. KorexTools

Drawing with slips of paper

  1. Cut and number the slips.
  2. Put them in a bag and shake it.
  3. Draw them one by one, noting each number.
  4. Repeat if someone doubts the procedure.

With the KorexTools Random Number Generator

  1. Type the range and quantity.
  2. Tick "No repeats".
  3. Press Generate and copy the list.

Pick a random number without anyone doubting the result

For a class draw, picking a turn or handing out prizes you need a number nobody can predict. Simple programs use Math.random, a generator meant for visual effects and not for decisions that matter. This generator uses the browser's cryptographic randomness, the same kind used to create keys.

It also avoids a common flaw: if a random number is computed with the "remainder" operation carelessly, some values come up slightly more often than others (modulo bias). Here the values that would cause that bias are discarded, so every number in the range has exactly the same probability.

Options included

  • •Free range, with positive and negative whole numbers up to ±1 trillion.
  • •Up to 1000 numbers per draw.
  • •No repeats: draws distinct numbers, like a bingo cage.
  • •Sort and copy the list comma-separated.

Common uses

NeedRangeOptions
Pick a number from 1 to 101 – 10Quantity 1
A number from 1 to 1001 – 100Quantity 1
Draw 5 prizes among 200 entrants1 – 200Quantity 5, no repeats
Turns for a class of 301 – 30Quantity 30, no repeats

Common Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

  • ⚠️Asking for more "no repeat" numbers than fit in the range (for example 20 distinct ones between 1 and 10).
  • ⚠️Regenerating until the number you like comes out.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I pick a random number from 1 to 10?

Leave minimum at 1, maximum at 10 and quantity at 1, then press Generate. For 1 to 100 change the maximum to 100.

How do I avoid repeated numbers?

Tick "No repeats". The quantity cannot exceed the distinct numbers that fit in the range (only 10 fit from 1 to 10).

Is it better than Math.random?

For decisions, yes: it uses the browser's cryptographic generator and discards values that would cause bias, so every number is equally likely.

Can I use it for a lottery or a legal draw?

No. For prize draws or legal requirements, use the method the rules demand and a witness. This tool is for everyday use.

What I would do if I were in your shoes

«Before a draw in front of an audience we announce the range and quantity aloud and then press once. If you repeat until you like the result, it is no longer a draw.» — DataKorex Engineering Team
